CHallenge ... Assess ... Nurture ... Guide ... Enable

Challenge - By presenting tasks in real-world simulation or actual working environments, students are exposed a new and exciting concept. Instead of facing a problem based on theory alone, the stakes are raised to a level where the students are challenged to develop a functional solution that must be constructed based on the core content that must be applied.

Assess - It's important to break down the learning process not just after a goal has been reached, but throughout the process. This provides a clear understanding of the path used to achieve the resolution to the task presented, and what was learned both at the destination and during the journey. What procedures were followed? What were the problems encountered during the process? Was the student engaged properly in the context of the assignment? A wealth of knowledge can be attained using correct assessment methods, and should definitely involve both the teacher and the student.

Nurture - Throughout the various stages of any kind of learning, there will always be problems encountered by the pupil. Children advance at different rates and achieve different levels of growth in their learning lives, and this can be difficult for some when being measured against other's successes. The fact is, every child has the right to be nurtured and encouraged in the proper way by those educating them. This is vital to both the mental and emotional health of the student, and can be immeasurably beneficial to them as learning progresses.

Guide - As new methods will shape the joy of learning, proper guidance ensures that the student now takes ownership of the problem and the means for resolving it, but may call upon a teacher's expertise when absolutely necessary. It's important to remember that this is in no way doing the work for the student or giving out the answer. It's a sharing of knowledge, and a method for stimulating the young and energetic mind into thinking for itself.

Enable - Educators have always had a love of learning and how it changes people, and so much of that passion comes from the idea of equipping their students with the proper knowledge and tools to achieve success in life beyond the classroom. There is a grand satisfaction felt by both teacher and student with the realization that not only has the learning been relevant, but that it has given the pupil the means to help them live a fulfilling and meaningful life. Enablement is one of the most distinguished and precious gifts a teacher can pass on to their student.
